A passenger plane crashed in the Zibak district of Badakhshan province in Afghanistan on Sunday, according to Afghan media.
“An Indian passenger plane crashed in the mountains of Topkhana alongside the districts of Kuran-Munjan and Zibak of Badakhshan province,” Afghanistan’s TOLO News reported, citing the head of the Department of Information and Culture of Badakhshan, Zabihullah Amiri.
According to reports, the crashed aircraft en route to Moscow, was initially thought to be of Indian origin. However, the Indian authorities denied the news later, clarifying that none of the Indian flights were scheduled for Moscow that day.
“It is a Moroccan-registered small aircraft,” the Indian Ministry of Civil Aviation said on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“The unfortunate plane crash that has just occurred in Afghanistan is neither an Indian Scheduled Aircraft nor a Non-Scheduled (NSOP)/Charter aircraft. It is a Moroccan-registered small aircraft. More details are awaited,” read the tweet.
Meanwhile, the Agence France-Presse (AFP) said: “The plane has crashed but the (exact) location is not known yet.”
On the other hand, the Russian Federal Agency for Air Transport on Telegram said that “according to preliminary data, six people were aboard the aircraft, including four crew members and two passengers.”
The passenger plane crashed during the early hours on Sunday, according to the locals.
