More US cities declare July 15th as Democracy and National Unity Day
Several cities across Texas, Idaho, Ohio, and Georgia in the U.S. have officially designated July 15th as Democracy and National Unity Day, as announced by the Turkish American National Steering Committee (TASC).
TASC President Attorney Seyit Sahin stated that Austin (Texas), Boise (Idaho), Dayton (Ohio), and Columbus (Georgia) have all recognized July 15th through initiatives by TASC. He mentioned that Washington, D.C., and Baltimore, Maryland, had previously made similar declarations last year.
Sahin emphasized that a total of 6 states in the U.S. now officially observe July 15th, highlighting the significance of these decisions amidst developments in Turkish-American relations. He expressed satisfaction within the Turkish-American community, particularly noting the importance of Texas’s decision, given its significant number of schools associated with the Feto organization.
Reflecting on the longstanding NATO alliance between Türkiye and the U.S., Sahin expressed optimism following the recent meeting between President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and President Joe Biden at the NATO Summit, anticipating positive impacts on bilateral relations going forward.
Previously, Washington, D.C., and Baltimore, Maryland, set a precedent by formally recognizing July 15th as Democracy and National Unity Day on July 14, 2023.
