More than 30 die in bus accident on bridge in Mali
Thirty-one people perished in a devastating accident when a bus flipped over and plunged from a bridge in Mali
Thirty-one individuals lost their lives following a tragic incident where a bus overturned and fell off a bridge in Mali on Tuesday.
The bus, originally traveling from the Malian town of Kenieba to neighboring Burkina Faso, veered off the bridge over the Bagoe river.
Approximately ten others sustained injuries, with some in critical condition.
Local authorities attributed the likely cause of the accident to “the driver’s inability to maintain control of the vehicle.”
The incident occurred around 5:00 p.m. local time.
“A bus departing from Kenieba commune to Burkina Faso toppled off a bridge. The probable reason is the driver’s loss of control over the vehicle,” according to a statement from the transport ministry.
The ministry noted the victims included Malians and individuals from other West African regions.
Mali frequently witnesses road accidents because of the substandard state of many roads and vehicles and overloaded and inadequately regulated public transportation.
Earlier this month, the Agence France-Presse (AFP) news agency reported that a collision between a bus en route to the capital, Bamako, and a truck resulted in the death of 15 individuals and left 46 others injured.
