Five bodies have been found on the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus coast so far between Jan.8-31

A total of five bodies have been found on the coasts of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) in the past two days.

The TRNC Police Press Officer reported the discovery of a male body washed ashore in the Çatalköy region of Kyrenia at around 8:15 a.m. a day earlier.

Today, it was reported that another male body was found in the same area.

These bodies, yet to be identified, are suspected to belong to irregular immigrants attempting to cross the Mediterranean toward the European Union (EU) or the Greek Cypriot Administration of Southern Cyprus (GCASC).

The first body, found on rocks in the Bafra Hotels Region, belonged to a woman.

TRNC authorities are implementing various measures to stop irregular immigrants from undertaking these dangerous journeys across the sea while an investigation into the incidents is underway.
