Iranian-backed groups continue to attack U.S. bases in Iraq. The organization called “Islamic Resistance in Iraq” claimed responsibility for the missile attack carried out earlier.
Following the development, the U.S. confirmed the series of events in a statement.
US CONFIRMED THE ATTACK
According to the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), it was said that many ballistic missiles and rockets were launched by Iranian-backed militants at Ayn al-Assad Military Base in western Iraq at 6:30 p.m. local time.
In the statement, it was said that most of the missiles were blocked by air defense systems, but some of them affected the base, and the damage assessment work was underway.
It was stated that some U.S. personnel were evaluated for “traumatic brain injury” and at least one Iraqi soldier was injured.
‘THEY WILL BE ACCOUNTABLE TO JUSTICE’
General Yahya Resul, Military Spokesperson of the Iraqi Prime Minister, announced in his written statement that an Iraqi soldier was injured in the attack carried out by Shiite militia groups on the U.S. base in the country.
Stating that there are also Iraqi military headquarters in Ayn al-Assad Base, Rasul affirmed that the perpetrators will be arrested and brought to justice.
IRAN’S INVOLVEMENT IN THE ATTACK
The group called “Islamic Resistance in Iraq”, consisting of Shiite militia forces in Iraq announced that it carried out a missile attack on the U.S. base Ayn al-Assad in the west of the country.
In a written statement, the “Islamic Resistance in Iraq” group claimed responsibility for the missile attacks on Ayn al-Assad Base in the city of Anbar.
Shiite militias noted that they will continue to target U.S. targets in Iraq.
The “Islamic Resistance in Iraq” group announced two days ago that they targeted the U.S.-armed unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) flying in the skies of Diyala.
Iraqi local media had announced that there was an attack with many missiles on the Ayn al-Assad Base in the west of the country, where U.S. soldiers are located.
US BASE WAS HIT
According to the news in the local media and based on security sources, a large number of missiles were attacked against the Ayn al-Assad Base in western Iraq, where U.S. soldiers are located.
In this context, Ayn al-Asad Military Base in Anbar, Harir Air Base in Erbil, Victory Military Base in Baghdad and the U.S. base near Erbil International Airport were repeatedly targeted with bomb-laden UAVs.
