At least 10 police officers were killed in an attack by militants on a police station in northwest Pakistan

Militants launched an assault on the police station in the northern part of the country on Monday, resulting in the death of at least 10 police officers.

Pakistan has been gripped by a recent escalation of violence in the lead-up to its national elections scheduled for later this week.

The targeted attack occurred in the early hours of Monday at the Chaudhwan police station in the Dera Ismail Khan district.

Armed militants opened fire on police constables stationed at the local police station using snipers.

The attack on the police station comes at a critical time for Pakistan as the country prepares for national elections later in the week.

The Pakistani government has been implementing security measures to ensure the safety of voters and candidates during the election period.
