Mahmoud Abbas welcomes Trinidad and Tobago’s recognition of Palestine
Recognition of Palestine is moral and just and shows that Trinidad and Tobago recognizes and supports the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian people, Trinidad and Tobago Foreign Ministry says
Palestine’s President Mahmoud Abbas shared his contentment regarding the recognition of Palestine by Trinidad and Tobago.
As reported by the official Palestinian news agency WAFA, Abbas expressed that this determination would aid in “practical measures to safeguard the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and facilitate the enactment of a two-state solution.”
Abbas recalled that throughout the years, Trinidad and Tobago had consistently voted in favor of and supported the rights of the Palestinian people in international forums. He placed significant emphasis on the fact that this preliminary determination aligns with the tenets of international law, which acknowledge the entitlements of nations to autonomy, liberty, fairness, and self-determination.
Abbas emphasized the significance of the right to self-determination as a universally acknowledged fundamental right under international law. He urged nations that have yet to recognize Palestine to assume their obligations and acknowledge the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination. By doing this, they would restore trust in the international system, which is based on the principle of equal rights and responsibilities for all peoples.
Trinidad and Tobago formally declared its recognition of Palestine as a sovereign state on Thursday. The nation’s Cabinet declared that the formal acknowledgment of Palestine’s independence would contribute to the establishment of enduring peace and bolster the growing international consensus on the matter.
