Latvian Foreign Minister Baiba Braze has praised Türkiye’s mediation efforts in the Russia-Ukraine conflict, particularly its involvement in the Black Sea Grain Initiative and prisoner exchange negotiations.

Speaking to Anadolu Agency, Braze referred to Türkiye as a “highly capable power” in diplomacy, highlighting its crucial role in peace efforts.

Strong relations between Türkiye and Latvia

Braze emphasized the strong and “excellent” relationship between Türkiye and Latvia, which has existed for over 100 years.

She noted that the two nations share a common stance in supporting Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty amid the ongoing conflict with Russia. Both Türkiye and Latvia, she stated, are committed to helping Ukraine both militarily and non-militarily.

Türkiye’s role in promoting stability and peace

The Latvian foreign minister underlined the importance of Türkiye’s role in facilitating the return of prisoners and ensuring compliance with international law in the context of the Russia-Ukraine war.

She also expressed support for Türkiye’s accession to the European Union and noted the positive developments in trade relations between the two countries.

Braze supports UNIFIL mission in Lebanon

In addition to discussing the Ukraine conflict, Braze highlighted the importance of maintaining the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) along the Blue Line at the Israel-Lebanon border.

She stressed that ensuring the stability of the peacekeeping mission is critical in light of ongoing regional tensions.
