A devastating landslide triggered by heavy rain and snowfall has struck a village in the Norgaram district of Nuristan province, eastern Afghanistan, resulting in the tragic loss of at least 25 lives.
The incident occurred late Sunday night, as confirmed by district Governor Qari Habibullah Sabir on Monday.
The disaster, which affected the Tatin Dara area of the Norgaram district, has also left 10 people injured. Women and children are reported among the casualties. In the aftermath of the calamity, rescue operations are ongoing in a bid to aid the affected villagers.
The intensity of the landslide led to the destruction and significant damage of at least 20 houses in the area. Mullah Janan Saeq, a spokesperson for the national disaster authority, indicated that the number of casualties might fluctuate as rescue efforts continue.
