Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan leaders meet in historic city of Khiva
Kazakhstan’s President Kassym Generous Tokayev and Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev meet in the historic city of Khiva
President of Kazakhstan Kassym Generous Tokayev and President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met in the historic city of Khiva, the Kazakh President’s office said.
After the welcoming ceremony at the airport, the two leaders held an informal meeting in the historic city of Khiva in Uzbekistan.
During the meeting, the leaders particularly touched upon issues related to ensuring stability and security in Central Asia.
In this context, they discussed preparations for the 6th Consultative Meeting of Central Asian Heads of State, as well as the prospects for interaction in the “C5+” format.
Tokayev and Mirziyoyev also welcomed the initiative on the creation of a joint enterprise between the railway administrations of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan to increase freight transportation and emphasized that this project will be instrumental in the development of the Trans-Afghan corridor.
During the meeting, the leaders discussed steps to strengthen Kazakh-Uzbek strategic relations and exchanged views on cooperation in the economic, trade, energy, transport, water resources and IT spheres.
The leaders also emphasized cultural and humanitarian ties, as well as the development of the tourism potential of the two countries.
Tokayev emphasized the symbolic importance of this meeting in Khiva, a treasure of Islamic civilization and architecture.
Tokayev underlined that Kazakh-Uzbek relations are a vital necessity, noting in this regard that he supports the adoption of the Program of Strategic Partnership and Alliance between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan until 2034.
The two leaders visited a number of enterprises and cultural sites in Khiva.
