Japan considers recognizing Palestine to assist Middle East peace
Japan’s government announced that it would comprehensively consider recognizing the state of Palestine, taking into account the advancement of the peace process in the Middle East.
Japanese Foreign Minister Kamikava Yoko stated during a press conference in Tokyo that they support the “two-state solution” in the Middle East.
Kamikava mentioned that they understand Palestinians’ aspirations for an independent state and expressed Japan’s support for their efforts towards this goal.
Regarding confidence-building measures, Kamikava noted, “We will continue to comprehensively evaluate the recognition of the State of Palestine in light of how the peace process can be advanced.”
Kamikava also stated that they would monitor the application process for an “arrest warrant” issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) Prosecutor Karim Khan against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.
