Italy will reportedly host a new round of nuclear talks between the U.S. and Iran, local media reported on Monday.

Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani announced at the World Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan, that the request to host the talks came from the “interested parties,” and Italy had agreed to facilitate the discussions, according to the state-run ANSA news agency.

“We are ready to welcome, as always, meetings that can bring positive results, in this case on the nuclear issue,” Tajani said. He added that Italy continues to demonstrate its role as a center for peace and mediation.

First round of talks ended ‘well’

Later, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, in a phone call with Iraq’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, said the initial round of U.S.-Iran nuclear talks in Oman had proceeded “well.”

Araghchi confirmed that “the second round of talks would be held soon in the Italian capital, Rome, under the auspices of the Sultanate of Oman,” according to an Iraqi Foreign Ministry statement.

The announcements follow an initial round of U.S.-Iran nuclear talks held on Saturday in Muscat, Oman.

The discussions come amid renewed tensions between Washington and Tehran, particularly since U.S. President Donald Trump took office in January. Trump recently warned of potential military action and additional tariffs if Iran fails to reach an agreement with the U.S. on its nuclear program — remarks that were sharply condemned by Iranian officials.

The U.S., along with its allies, including Israel, accuses Iran of attempting to develop nuclear weapons, an allegation Tehran strongly denies.

Although Iran has declined direct negotiations with the U.S., it has agreed to indirect talks mediated by Oman, following a recent exchange of letters between the two governments.

Tehran confirms 2nd round talks to be held in Muscat

Meanwhile, Iran’s Foreign Ministry confirmed late Monday that the next round of indirect nuclear talks with the U.S. will take place Saturday (April 19) in Muscat, Oman.

Ministry Spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei put to rest speculation about the potential venue for the upcoming round of “indirect talks” between Tehran and Washington.
