Israeli strike on Syria kills Iranian Revolutionary Guards’ intel chief and 3 others
An Israeli airstrike in Damascus results in the death of key Iranian Revolutionary Guard members, including their intelligence chief for Syria and his deputy
In a tragic development on Saturday, an Israeli airstrike in Damascus resulted in the demise of key figures from the Iranian Revolutionary Guard. The casualties included the intelligence chief for Syria, his deputy, and two other Guard members, as reported by Iranian media.
Iran’s Mehr news agency, citing an informed but unnamed source, conveyed, “The Revolutionary Guards’ Syria intel chief, his deputy, and two other Guard members were lost in the attack on Syria by Israel.”
The Revolutionary Guard, in a formal statement, confirmed the loss of four of its members in the strike on the Syrian capital, squarely placing blame on Israel for the incident. According to the official Syrian news agency SANA, the strike targeted a residential building in the Mazzeh neighborhood of Damascus, described as “an Israeli aggression.”
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a war monitor, indicated that the Israeli strike focused on a neighborhood known for sheltering leaders of the Guard as well as pro-Iranian Palestinian factions.
This unfortunate event follows closely on the heels of a recent announcement by the Revolutionary Guard, claiming responsibility for an attack on “an Israeli intelligence headquarters” in Arbil, the capital of Iraq’s northern province. The Iraqi authorities reported that the attack led to the loss of four civilians and injuries to six others.
