Israeli police shoot Turkish man dead for alleged knife attack
Israeli media confirms the incident, saying that the person succumbed to the police fire
Israeli police shot and killed a Turkish national for allegedly attempting to attack police officers with a knife in the Old City of occupied East Jerusalem amid escalating tensions.
The person involved was allegedly identified as a 34-year-old Turkish citizen.
According to Israeli police, the incident occurred at around 12:30 p.m. local time when a man attempted to attack police officers with a knife near the Herod Gate area of the Old City.
Israeli police officers returned fire, neutralized the suspect and recovered a knife from the scene.
One police officer was reportedly injured but is reported to be in stable condition.
While Israeli authorities did not make a statement on the health condition of the person who was shot, footage taken by the Anadolu shows paramedics removing a body from the scene in the Herod’s Gate area.
Israeli media confirmed the incident and stated that the person died because of police fire.
After the shooting, Israeli police raided the hotel where the alleged accused was reportedly staying in East Jerusalem.
Investigation on the matter is underway.
