Israeli MP: Netanyahu should be arrested
On May 20th, following International Criminal Court Prosecutor Karim Khan’s announcement of his request for an arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, Khan unexpectedly garnered support from Israel.
As opposition mounts within Israel due to failures in meeting objectives set during the conflict in Gaza and in the handling of prisoner rescues, Offer Cassif, a member of the Joint List Party in the Israeli Parliament, declared that Netanyahu should face arrest.
With the ruling coalition fracturing amidst these failures, this expression of dissent from the opposition signals challenging times ahead for Netanyahu.
Addressing the matter, Cassif stated, “The ICC prosecutor’s request is warranted. We have been anticipating a verdict against Netanyahu and Gallant.”
Let them answer for their crimes
“‘No person or institution should be above international law,’” Cassif emphasized, further stating that Netanyahu and Gallant must be held accountable for their war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
Within 225 days since October 7, over 35,000 civilians have lost their lives in Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip. International Criminal Court Prosecutor Khan attributes responsibility for these war crimes to Netanyahu and Gallant, citing the actions of the Israeli army.
