Syria successfully shot down some of the Israeli airstrikes on Damascus on Monday night, confirms Syrian news agency SANA

Several locations around Damascus were targeted by air strikes from Israeli forces toward the Golan Heights at 2:10 p.m. local time, according to a report from the Syrian news agency SANA,

“Damage was caused in the attack. Air defense systems shot down some enemy rockets,” the report added.

Israeli authorities have not yet released a statement regarding the alleged attack.

Alongside the Syrian army and Iran-backed groups, elements of the Lebanese Hezbollah group are also present in Damascus and its surrounding areas.

Since the beginning of the Syrian civil war in 2011, Israel has sporadically conducted attacks on military positions belonging to Iran-backed groups and the Syrian army within Syria.

Due to the escalating tensions in the region, Russian forces have established 10 observation posts along the border between Syria and the Golan Heights since the beginning of the year.

Russia has occasionally responded to Israeli attacks on Syria by intercepting missiles in the air.

The situation in the region remains tense as reports of such incidents continue to emerge.
