Israeli troops’ attack on hungry Palestinians waiting for food aid sparks condemnation and urgent calls for intervention

Israeli troops opened fire on hundreds of Palestinians waiting for food aid southwest of Gaza City, resulting in 77 deaths and over 200 wounded in what the Palestinian Foreign Ministry condemned as a “massacre.”

The ministry reported at least 104 Palestinians killed and 760 wounded, labeling the attack as part of Israel’s ongoing “genocidal war.” Urgent calls were made for international intervention to establish a cease-fire for civilian protection.

The citizens had gathered at al-Rashid Street, waiting for aid trucks carrying flour. Footages show the bodies of killed and wounded Palestinians being loaded onto trucks due to the inability of ambulances to reach the area.

The dead and wounded were taken to several medical centers, including al-Shifa, Kamal Adwan, Al Ahli, and Jordanian hospitals. Ambulances were unable to reach the area due to “totally destroyed” roads.

Jadallah Al-Shafei, head of the nurse’s department at al-Shifa Hospital, described the situation as “beyond any words,” with the hospital inundated with “dozens of dead bodies and hundreds of injured.”

This incident is the latest in a series of systematic attacks on hungry Palestinians awaiting food aid, with recent days seeing Israeli forces targeting large groups on Salah al-Din Street near Gaza City.

According to the latest update by the Health Ministry in Gaza, at least 30,035 people have been killed and 70,457 wounded by Israeli attacks in Gaza since Oct. 7.
