Iran denies involvement in attack on US soldiers
Iran has denied any involvement in the recent drone attack near the Jordan-Syria border, refuting accusations made by the U.S.
Iran has firmly denied involvement in the drone attack that led to the death of three U.S. soldiers and injured over 30 others. The deadly attack near the Jordan-Syria border led to a significant escalation in regional tensions and was attributed to Iranian-backed militias by the U.S.
The Islamic Resistance in Iraq, which is an umbrella group including Iran-backed militias, had claimed responsibility for the attack. However, in a statement by its mission to the United Nations, Iran distanced itself, asserting that it had no connection with the attack and emphasizing the autonomous operations of regional resistance groups.
U.S. President Joe Biden mourned for the loss of U.S. service members and expressed his determination to retaliate. U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and U.K. Foreign Secretary David Cameron supported the president’s stance. On the other hand, Iran’s foreign ministry spokesperson, Nasser Kanaani, responded by suggesting that the U.S. allegations were politically influenced and not based on direct involvement by Tehran.
The U.S. has long accused Iran of supporting militant groups that have targeted U.S. and allied interests, but the attack was the first deadly incident involving U.S. forces in the Middle East since the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas war in October. It has intensified concerns about a potential broader conflict in the region.
