Shiite militia forces operating in Iraq and Syria issues order to evacuate all bases in Iraq
Escalating attacks on American bases in Syria and Iraq have heightened tensions in the region, particularly following the recent killing of three U.S. soldiers in Teneff. President Biden has declared that those responsible for the attacks will be held accountable, leading to increased movement of U.S. bomber aircraft in Iraq. Responding to mutual threats, the Popular Mobilization Forces, a Shiite militia force operating in Iraq and Syria, issued an urgent order to all units, instructing them to ‘evacuate headquarters’ immediately.
In the attack on the Teneff Base near the Syrian border yesterday, three American soldiers lost their lives, and numerous others sustained injuries. President Joe Biden, in a statement following the assault, vowed to hold those responsible accountable. As tensions escalate, the Iran-backed Popular Mobilization Forces, established to combat the terrorist organization Daesh in Iraq, issued a critical call.
Falih el-Fayyad, the leader of Popular Mobilization Forces with over 100,000 militia members, issued an urgent order to ‘evacuate all camps and headquarters in the northwest and central regions. Cease all training activities immediately.’ This written message, bearing Fayyad’s signature, was communicated to all levels of the organization. Besides the evacuation of headquarters, the suspension of all training activities for the organization was announced.
