ICJ rejects Russia's 'jurisdictional' objections in 'genocide' lawsuit

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) rejected Russia’s objections to the “jurisdiction” and “admissibility” requirements in the “genocide” lawsuit brought by Ukraine

In the public session held at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), the judicial organ of the United Nations, the decision on the “jurisdiction” and “admissibility” conditions in the “genocide” lawsuit brought by Ukraine against Russia was announced.

The International Criminal Court on Friday rejected Russia’s objections on the admissibility of Ukraine’s  against Moscow under the Genocide Convention.

At a preliminary hearing in the Hague, the court announced that it considers the lawsuit to be under its jurisdiction and will hear it.

“The Court decided by 15 votes to one that it has jurisdiction to consider the lawsuit, based on Article 9 of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of Genocide,” Judge Joan Donohue said at a hearing that was broadcast life.
