Hungarian PM Orban to meet with former President Trump in Florida, following Orban’s endorsement of Trump’s potential US presidency return amid tensions with Biden administration

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban is scheduled to meet with former U.S. President Donald Trump on March 8 in Florida, as confirmed by Orban’s press chief to Hungarian state news agency MTI Sunday.

Last month, the nationalist Orban publicly endorsed Trump’s candidacy for a return to the U.S. presidency this year.

On Feb. 23, Orban expressed hopes for Trump’s return to office, stating: “We hope the current president will depart, and (President) Trump will return, having the freedom to facilitate peace (in Ukraine).”

Orban has opted not to provide weapons to Ukraine in its conflict against Russia’s invasion and has been critical of Western sanctions on Russia. He has consistently advocated for a cease-fire in Ukraine to end the ongoing conflict.

Having held office since 2010, Orban has faced tensions with the administration of President Joe Biden, particularly regarding Budapest’s delay in ratifying Sweden’s NATO membership.

The Hungarian prime minister emphasized the significance of this year’s U.S. presidential election and the European Parliament vote in June. He highlighted the need for conservatives in Europe and the U.S. to unite to “reclaim” institutions in Washington and Brussels from what he perceives as a threat to Western civilization posed by liberals.
