The New York Police Department confirmed the crash occurred “in the vicinity of the West Side Highway and Spring Street” and urged motorists and pedestrians to “expect emergency vehicles and traffic delays in the surrounding areas.”
Images from the scene showed the helicopter’s landing skids protruding from the river, with several emergency boats clustered around the site.

A spokesperson for the New York Fire Department said the initial call came in at 3:17 p.m. (1917 GMT), reporting “a helicopter in the water.” No further official details were immediately available.
The Hudson River is a heavily trafficked waterway and the site of the famed “Miracle on the Hudson” in 2009, when a U.S. Airways jetliner made an emergency landing in the river, with all 155 passengers and crew surviving.
