U.S. National Weather Service raises concerns of ‘life-threatening’ conditions for communities surrounding Lake Tahoe

A massive blizzard wreaked Saturday across California and Nevada in the western U.S.

With forecasts predicting up to 3 meters of snowfall at higher elevations, the U.S. National Weather Service raised concerns of “life-threatening” conditions for communities surrounding Lake Tahoe.

The relentless snowstorm has paralyzed the region, leading to the closure of major roads and ski resorts while leaving tens of thousands of households in darkness.

The Sierra Nevada mountain range bore the brunt of the blizzard, experiencing wind gusts of up to 305 km/h (189.5 m/h).

Authorities have issued warnings of “high to extreme avalanche danger,” particularly in the greater Lake Tahoe area, urging residents to exercise extreme caution.
