Hamas Movement Political Bureau Member Usama al-Hamdan requests Egypt, Qatar, Turkey, Russia, and the UN to act as guarantors to cease-fire agreement

Hamas Movement Political Bureau Member on Wednesday commented on their proposal for a ceasefire in Gaza, as they demanded Egypt, Qatar, Türkiye, Russia, and the UN to act as a guarantor for any agreement. At the press conference held at Hamas’ office in Beirut, Usama al-Hamdan talked about the possible hostage exchange and ceasefire agreement that Hamas put forward through mediatory countries to the Israeli government.

Hamdan highlighted the efforts of Hamas towards a comprehensive ceasefire, “Hamas has presented proposals for the cessation of barbaric attacks on vulnerable civilians, including children, women, and the elderly, the provision of safe shelter for the displaced, reconstruction efforts, lifting the blockade on Gaza, and a full prisoner exchange.” In response to the Israeli reactions that allegedly denied the basic human needs of Palestinian people, Hamdan pointed out a positive reaction from Hamas towards this agreement. He pointed out Israel’s continued pronouncements of intent to continue with the attacks on Gaza after the announcement of the agreement.

Hamdan cited the recent statements by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding the agreement that stated his refusal to withdraw troops from Gaza and release Palestinian prisoners. Hamdan pointed to the resistance of any path towards ending attacks on Gaza civilians by the war cabinet in Israel.

Replying to journalists on which countries are guarantors in the agreement, Hamdan said “In our ceasefire proposal for Gaza, we requested Egypt, Qatar, Türkiye, Russia, and the UN to be guarantors in any agreement.” Hamdan ended his remarks by saying that tomorrow a delegation of Hamas will arrive in Cairo to talk about developments related to the ceasefire agreement.
