Hamas delegates head to Cairo for cease-fire talks, responding to Egypt’s invitation, amid ongoing international efforts to halt the violence in the Gaza Strip
A delegation from Hamas is set to travel to Cairo to participate in cease-fire talks in the Gaza Strip following an invitation from Egypt.
A delegation led by Khalil al-Hayya, a senior Hamas leader, will head to Egypt on April 7.
Hamas’ statement emphasized adherence to the demands presented during the talks on March 14, stating that these natural demands will not be abandoned.
Additionally, Hamas reaffirmed its commitment to the demands listed by the Palestinian people and national forces, including “a permanent cease-fire, the withdrawal of the Israeli army from Gaza, the return of the displaced, freedom of movement, assistance and protection for civilians, and a significant prisoner exchange agreement.”
U.S. President Joe Biden, in a phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday, urged for an “urgent ceasefire in Gaza” and called for steps toward a cease-fire by Israel.
According to reports in the U.S. media, CIA Director Burns’ visit to Cairo is expected to take place this weekend.
An unnamed official who spoke to American media stated that Biden sent letters to leaders in Egypt and Qatar, calling for “pressure on Hamas for a cease-fire.
