Greek farmers intensify protests after unproductive meeting with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis

Greek farmers escalated protests after an unsuccessful meeting with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis in Athens, public broadcaster ERT announced Wednesday.

Dissatisfaction among the farmers has grown due to what they perceive as only partial concessions from the government, leading them to question the effectiveness of their mobilizations.

While some farming community members have proposed deescalation, a significant majority is pushing for a more assertive stance, advocating for a tractor march to Athens as a symbolic display of their grievances.

The decision on the next steps in their protest strategy is expected to be finalized during a crucial meeting scheduled for Thursday in Larissa. Representatives from various regions will gather to evaluate the situation, share their perspectives, and collectively decide on the most effective action.

One of the central points of contention revolves around the government’s handling of fiscal matters related to the agricultural sector. Farmers argue that the partial concessions fail to address their key concerns, particularly regarding economic support and relief from financial burdens.
