Greek beekeepers rally in Athens over soaring production costs
Thousands of Greek beekeepers joined protests in Athens to voice farmers’ concerns over rising production costs
Over 1,000 Greek beekeepers from around the country held a protest rally in Athens on Thursday, just one day after a massive farmers rally in the capital.
Issues raised by the beekeepers include the surge in production expenses, counterfeit honey in the market, the sale of imported honey labeled as Greek, and restrictions imposed by the fire department on their activities in forests, leading to unsustainable production costs.
Dissatisfied with previous discussions with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Greek farmers, joined by tractors, staged a massive rally in Athens demanding subsidized electricity and fuel for the agricultural sector, which they argue is becoming economically unviable due to increasing expenses.
The farmers demand subsidized electricity and fuel for the agricultural sector, which they say is becoming unprofitable in the face of rising costs.
