The Advisory Board of the Turkish Minority of Western Thrace announced that Greece is trying to close Turkish schools in violation of the Treaty of Lausanne

The Advisory Board of the Turkish Minority of Western Thrace emphasized in a statement that the Athens administration is violating the Treaty of Lausanne.

“Greece does not comply with the Treaty of Lausanne and education protocols. The number of Turkish primary schools decreased from 307 to 90,” the statement read.

Furthermore, the advisory board stated that not only has the number of primary schools decreased as a result of Greece’s policies, but the Greek government has also prevented the minority from increasing the number of secondary schools and high schools.

The statement highlighted Greece’s disregard for the perspectives of Western Thrace Turks. It pointed out that the state did not consider the opinions of Western Thrace Turks in decisions regarding minority education, nor did it seek their input as a matter of courtesy.
