German Ministry of Defense conducts historic parachute aid drop to Gaza
Germany deploys a C-130 aircraft to parachute four tons of urgently needed food supplies into Gaza
The German Ministry of Defense has announced that humanitarian aid supplies have been delivered to Gaza for the first time via parachute drop.
In a statement released on the ministry’s social media platform X, it was noted that the German Air Force had conducted its inaugural parachute drop of humanitarian aid materials to Gaza today.
The statement highlighted that the aircraft carrying the aid were stationed in the city of Evreux in France.
According to a statement from the German Air Force, four tons of urgently needed food were parachuted into Gaza using a C-130 aircraft, with four pallets dropped from approximately 1000 meters altitude.
German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, in his remarks, stated: “In this way, we can contribute to ensuring that urgently needed medicine and food reach the people in Gaza who are in difficult circumstances.”
Germany had previously announced its participation in the operation initiated by Jordan to deliver aid to Gaza by air, with the mission to be carried out using C-130J Hercules transport aircraft stationed in the French city of Evreux.
Open Arms vessel arrived on Gaza Strip
The Open Arms towed a barge carrying 200 tons of food including rice and flour donated by the U.S.-based charity World Central Kitchen.
The vessel departed from Larnaca port of the Greek Cypriot administration and arrived on Gaza’s shores on Friday. The unloading of the first aid ship that arrived on the shores of the besieged Gaza Strip a day earlier was completed on Saturday.
The aid mission, named Operation Safeena, aims to inaugurate a maritime aid corridor proposed by the Greek Cypriot administration, and supported by the U.K., U.S. and EU.
