German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock emphasized Türkiye’s pivotal position in addressing the ongoing crisis in Syria, calling it a “key player” in the region.

In a statement shared on X, formerly known as Twitter, Baerbock noted her meeting with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan during the NATO Foreign Ministers’ meeting in Brussels. “Türkiye, as a key player in the region, holds a central role in dealing with the current crisis,” Baerbock wrote.

The minister stressed the importance of prioritizing the protection of civilians and minorities in Syria, underscoring the humanitarian dimension of the conflict.

Baerbock also touched on the war in Ukraine, describing NATO as a “security anchor in turbulent times.” She highlighted Germany’s commitment to NATO’s eastern flank, stating, “Europe’s security relies on protecting NATO’s eastern flank and providing political, economic, and military support to Ukraine.”

Germany’s contributions, she added, include strengthening NATO’s eastern defense with a brigade in Lithuania, Eurofighters in the air, and an additional naval presence in the Baltic Sea.

The statements reflect Germany’s dual focus on supporting NATO allies and addressing regional instability, both critical components of its foreign policy.
