German Chancellor Olaf Scholz characterized Türkiye as a demanding yet crucial partner in discussions about Ankara’s relations with Berlin and Türkiye’s aspirations for EU membership, highlighting Türkiye’s significant role as an ally.
In his statement regarding the matter, the German Chancellor said, “Türkiye presents challenges, yet it stands as a pivotal strategic ally. We must indeed bolster our collaboration.”
Continuing his discourse on the roadmap for Türkiye-Germany relations, Scholz hinted at the importance of Türkiye-EU relations. He remarked, “The enhancement and modernization of the Customs Union carry great significance,” expressing their commitment to addressing this issue.
Scholz further emphasized Türkiye’s contribution to European security in the realm of migration, citing migration as an avenue for potential collaboration.
Moreover, Scholz recalled the directive from the European Commission for streamlining visa procedures with Turkish citizens. He emphasized the prospect of negotiations on various fronts, asserting that such negotiations would inject dynamism into Ankara-Berlin and Türkiye-EU relations.
