American citizens protested against U.S. President Joe Biden during the annual White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner in the United States reacting to Israel’s massacres in Gaza.
The event, which was attended by members of the press, celebrities, politicians and the President himself, became a platform for dissent.
The demonstrators congregated outside the Washington Hilton Hotel, waving Palestinian flags in a protest organized by the anti-war NGO CodePink.
They chanted slogans such as “Genocide Joe,” “Shame on you!” and “Every time the media lies, a journalist dies in Gaza.”
The United States recently approved a package for Israel containing $26 billion in aid on April 24. The Biden administration has been maintaining its support for Israel since the beginning of the conflict in Gaza.
The international community sees the stance of the Biden administration as a contributing factor to the failure to achieve a cease-fire. The American public also perceives the Biden administration as complicit in Israel’s actions.
In the United States, numerous universities continue to host rallies in support of Palestine. However, the police are attempting to quell the demonstrations by using violence against the protesters.
US journalists also protested
Asserting that the U.S. media is concealing Israel’s massacres in Gaza, the protesters urged journalists to refrain from disseminating false information.
They vocalized demands such as “Journalists, do your job and report on genocide!” and emphasized that “More journalists have been killed in Gaza than in the Second World War.” Banners were displayed with the explicit message “Journalists, do your job and report on genocide!”
