French Foreign Minister Stephane Sejourne alleged that Russian officials distorted the essence of discussions between French Defense Minister Sebastien Lecornu and his Russian counterpart Sergei Shoigu

French Foreign Minister Stephane Sejourne has stated that Russian officials have misrepresented the discussions between French Defense Minister Sebastien Lecornu and Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu.

In a recent statement, France accused Russian authorities of providing false information regarding the topics discussed during meetings with the Russian Defense Ministry.

Sejourne announced on France 24 that Paris has decided to halt all dialogues with Russia following Moscow’s release of conflicting reports regarding the recent conversation between Lecornu and Shoigu.

“Engaging in discussions with Russian officials is not in our best interest at this time due to their lack of honesty,” Sejourne declared.

The meeting between Lecornu and Shoigu took place after a rare occurrence of violence outside the Crocus City concert hall near Moscow. The French Ministry of Defense condemned the attack by Daesh and expressed solidarity with the victims in a statement following the meeting.

On the other hand, the Russian Defense Ministry claimed that France expressed willingness to discuss Ukraine or explore potential peace negotiations based on the 2022 Istanbul talks, which had previously failed to yield results.

The French foreign minister stressed that negotiations would be pointless until mutual trust is reestablished.
