Eyewitness confirms unprovoked West Bank shooting
The fatal shooting of a U.S.-Palestinian teenager in the West Bank sparks concerns as an eyewitness claims the incident was unprovoked
The fatal shooting of an American-Palestinian teenager in the occupied West Bank last Friday has raised questions about the circumstances surrounding the incident. According to an eyewitness, the shooting appears to have been unprovoked, adding to the growing concerns over violence in the region.
Sixteen-year-old Mohammed Salameh was driving a pickup truck in the West Bank when the vehicle came under apparent Israeli fire, resulting in a tragic incident that claimed the life of his friend, 17-year-old Tawfic Abdel Jabbar.
According to Salameh, the two teenagers were driving on a dirt road, far from Highway 60, when at least 10 bullets struck the truck. The gunfire primarily targeted the back windshield and truck bed, ultimately hitting Abdel Jabbar. The vehicle flipped multiple times, and Salameh managed to escape and seek help in a nearby village.
Israeli police initially suggested that the shooting targeted individuals allegedly involved in stone-throwing. However, Salameh firmly denied any involvement in such activities. Hafeth Abdel Jabbar, Tawfic’s father, rejected claims that his son had thrown stones, emphasizing that they posed no threat as they drove through the area.
The White House has called for a transparent investigation into the incident, reflecting ongoing U.S. concerns over violence against Palestinians in the territory.
Tawfic’s mother, Mona Abdel Jabbar, expressed her grief and anger over her son’s killing, questioning the U.S. support for Israel in light of the tragedy. “How many children have to get killed for the U.S. to stop supporting Israel?” she said, adding, “My son, he was killed by — I don’t want to say American bullets, but at least by American money.”
The tragic incident has sent shockwaves through the American-Palestinian community in the West Bank, raising questions about the level of scrutiny such cases receive. Family, friends, and relatives have gathered to mourn, demanding accountability for Tawfic Abdel Jabbar’s death.
