Eventful fashion night: Demonstrators protest at Met Gala for Palestine
Protesters march at the Met Gala in New York, demanding an end to the Israel-Hamas conflict. NYPD arrests several protesters
Demonstrators gathered outside the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York on Monday during the famous Met Gala, a high-profile fashion event, to support Palestine.
Protesters demanded an immediate end to the monthslong Israel’s war on Palestine in the Gaza Strip.
Several people were reportedly arrested by New York Police Department (NYPD) officers during the demonstration.
“As hundreds of people attended the annual @metmuseum Gala, our officers were on duty prioritizing safety and security,” the NYPD stated on social media, emphasizing their commitment to ensuring public safety.
According to Palestinian health authorities, more than 34,700 people, mostly women and children, have been killed and 78,100 injured in Gaza since the start of the conflict.
After almost seven months of fighting, significant parts of Gaza have been devastated, displacing 85% of the population and exacerbating humanitarian challenges, according to the U.N., including limited access to food, clean water and medical supplies.
