The European Union issued a strong condemnation on Tuesday in response to Iran’s ballistic missile attack on Israel, calling for an immediate ceasefire across the Middle East to prevent further escalation.

In a statement shared on social media, EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell emphasized the severity of the situation, warning that the ongoing cycle of attacks and retaliation between Iran and Israel risks spiraling out of control.

“The dangerous cycle of attacks and retaliation risks … spiraling out of control,” Borrell posted on X (formerly Twitter). “An immediate ceasefire across the region is needed.”

The attack by Iran involved the launch of approximately 180 missiles at Israel, following the killing of Tehran-backed militant leaders. This escalation has raised alarm across the region, with fears of a wider conflict looming.

Borrell reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to helping de-escalate tensions and prevent a broader regional war. “The EU remains fully committed to contribute to avert a regional war,” Borrell added in his statement.

As tensions mount, international bodies and governments continue to urge diplomatic solutions to restore stability in the volatile region. The EU’s firm stance highlights its growing concern over the potential for a larger Middle Eastern conflict.
