Establish ties with Israel to buy weapons, US tells Saudi Arabia
In an interview with the Financial Times, White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan demands Riyadh to normalize its relations with Israel for the U.S. to strike a defense deal with Saudi Arabia
The White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan told the Financial Times that the Biden administration would only sign a defense deal with Saudi Arabia if Riyadh agreed to normalize its relations with Israel.
Israel’s relations with the Gulf states are not improving because of its ongoing atrocities in the Gaza Strip.
The U.S., Tel Aviv’s biggest supporter, is using all the cards at its disposal to change this situation.
“The holistic vision is a bilateral understanding between the United States and Saudi Arabia, normalization between Israel and Saudi Arabia, and meaningful action on behalf of the Palestinian people. You can’t separate one part from the other,” Sullivan added.
Emphasizing that the Biden administration is encouraging normalization processes in the Middle East, Sullivan said: “There may be more statements from him and U.S. President Joe Biden in the coming months.”
