Dramatic rescue in Oslofjord: Sauna boat users save Tesla occupants
Norwegian sauna boat crew rescues Tesla passengers from icy waters of the Oslofjord
On Thursday, two occupants of a Tesla were rescued from the icy waters of the Oslofjord in Norway, by a floating sauna. The electric car had plunged into the fjord after the driver, mistakenly believing the vehicle was parked, accelerated instead. This led to the car vaulting over a barrier into the water.
Nicholay Nordahl, the sauna’s skipper, was on a routine cruise with guests when the accident occurred. Acting swiftly, he maneuvered the sauna boat towards the half-submerged car, where the man and woman stood atop the sinking vehicle. With assistance from two guests, the pair were rescued just as their car submerged. They were immediately brought aboard the sauna boat to warm up.
Eyewitness Vladislav Nikiforov observed the incident while on a walk and described the car as having “jumped” over the barrier. He emphasized the fortuitous presence of the nearby floating sauna, noting the incredibly cold and icy conditions of the water.
Floating saunas, both stationary and mobile, are common in the Oslofjord, providing a unique Scandinavian experience of enjoying the sauna while admiring the scenic beauty. Often electrically powered, these saunas are available for hire in the region.
The Oslo Police, in a statement on X (formerly Twitter), confirmed that both occupants of the car were unharmed and no other individuals were involved in the incident. The cause of the car’s plunge into the fjord remains under investigation.
