Congress to file impeachment articles against Defense Secretary over transparency concerns
Matt Rosendale is set to file an impeachment article to the U.S. House of Rep. following the Defense secretary’s hospitalization
Both, the White House and the public have been left in the dark for four days about Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin’s hospitalization.
After several Republican politicians, including Elise Stefanik, claimed that either the Secretary himself or his chief of staff should resign, a House Republican lawmaker Matt Rosendale said he will be introducing an impeachment resolution to the House.
Facing heightened criticism, Austin and the Biden administration have come under fire for the Pentagon’s failure to disclose Austin’s hospital admission on Dec. 22 for elective surgery.
Austin’s subsequent readmission on Jan. 1, prompted by health issues from the procedure, remained undisclosed to Biden and other top officials until Thursday.
Congress received notification late Friday afternoon, raising concerns about transparency.
Earlier on Monday, Matt Rosendale said in an interview that he would be taking action by filing impeachment articles against Austin.
Rosendale highlighted the gravity of the incident by saying that the Defense Secretary “violated his oath of office” and “jeopardized” the lives of the Americans.
As Rosendale is set to introduce the impeachment article to the House this afternoon, the Pentagon announced Austin won’t be resigning from his duty.
Besides, the Biden administration wouldn’t accept such a resignation, according to a news report by POLITICO.
