China’s standing committee session comes to a close

The fifth meeting of the standing committee of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) comes to an end in Beijing

The fifth session of the standing committee of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), China’s top political advisory body, concluded in Beijing Saturday. 

Wang Huning, a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the chairperson of the CPPCC National Committee, presided over the closing gathering and delivered a speech. 

Commending the tangible advancements achieved by the CPPCC National Committee in the past year, Wang highlighted that 2024 signifies the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the People’s Republic of China and the CPPCC. 

Wang emphasized the importance of the CPPCC upholding its esteemed customs, fulfilling its political duties, actively providing counsel, fostering consensus to propel China’s modernization and mobilizing collective wisdom and efforts to achieve national economic and social development objectives. 

He urged for concerted endeavors to ensure the smooth convening of the forthcoming second session of the 14th CPPCC National Committee. 

During the meeting, various documents were scrutinized and endorsed, including a provisional agenda and timetable for the annual session, a report on the activities of the CPPCC National Committee’s Standing Committee and an assessment of the handling of recommendations from political advisors following the initial session of the 14th CPPCC National Committee.

These papers will be reviewed at the annual session.
