China’s foreign minister labels Israel’s actions in Gaza as a violation of civilized norms and reiterates the urgent need for a cease-fire

China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi said during a press briefing Thursday that the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Gaza is a “tragedy for humanity.”

Since the onset of the recent Israeli aggression in October last year, Beijing has consistently advocated for an immediate cessation of hostilities.

China has historically stood in solidarity with the Palestinian cause and endorsed a two-state solution for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

President Xi Jinping has proposed an “international peace conference” to mediate the ongoing conflict.

“It is a tragedy for humanity and a blemish on civilization that in this 21st century, we witness this humanitarian crisis persist without resolution,” Wang said.

“There is no justification for the conflict to persist, and no rationale for innocent lives to be lost,” Wang emphasized. “The global community must act promptly, prioritizing an immediate cease-fire and the end of hostilities, while recognizing humanitarian aid as a critical moral duty.”

China’s chief diplomat affirmed support for granting full United Nations membership to a Palestinian state.

“We advocate for Palestine’s formal inclusion as a UN member,” Wang asserted.

“The tragedy in Gaza serves as a poignant reminder that the prolonged occupation of Palestinian territories cannot be disregarded,” he underscored.

“The enduring aspiration of the Palestinian people for self-governance must be acknowledged, and the historical injustices they have endured for generations must be rectified,” he concluded.
