Early Saturday, 7 people, including a six-year-old boy and a 16-year-old boy, were killed when a bus overturned east of Vicksburg, Mississippi. The two young victims were brothers, according to Warren County Coroner Doug Huskey.

The accident occurred around 12:40 a.m. on Interstate 20 near Bovina in Warren County. The Mississippi Highway Patrol reported that a 2018 Volvo commercial passenger bus traveling westbound left the roadway and overturned.

37 passengers injured

Thirty-seven passengers were transported to various hospitals with injuries, though their conditions are currently unknown. The co-driver of the bus was not taken to the hospital.

Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace described the incident as particularly tragic, stating, “Anytime you have people injured or killed, it’s tragic, but when you have a situation like this with multiple fatalities and multiple injuries, it makes it even worse,” in an interview with an ABC affiliate.

Huskey noted that most of the bus passengers were Latin American.
