Bosnia, Herzegovina will always be part of Europe, Slovenian Foreign Minister
Slovenian Foreign Minister Tanja Fajon underscores Bosnia and Herzegovina’s perpetual place within Europe during talks with Bosnian officials
Slovenian Foreign Minister Tanja Fajon emphasized that Bosnia and Herzegovina will always remain a part of Europe during his discussions with Bosnian Foreign Minister Elmedin Konakovic in the capital city of Sarajevo.
Following the meeting, the ministers held a joint press conference during which Fajon expressed satisfaction with the decision to begin accession negotiations with Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“Bosnia and Herzegovina has taken a historic step toward accession to the European Union (EU). I am very happy and proud of Slovenia’s significant role in this process, our assistance and our cooperation in this procedure. Initiating negotiations is a challenging process,” Fajon stated.
Fajon assured that Bosnia and Herzegovina will not face financial support shortages, asserting: “Bosnia and Herzegovina will always be a part of Europe.”
She also pledged continued support for Bosnia and Herzegovina in its EU membership process.
Konakovic thanked Slovenia for supporting this process, stating that they discussed Bosnia and Herzegovina’s EU membership process with Fajon.
Highlighting that Bosnia and Herzegovina lack alternatives economically outside the EU, Konakovic emphasized that the country’s economic development and the retention of its youth are solely dependent on the EU integration process.
President of the European Council Charles Michel announced on March 21 that the decision to commence accession negotiations with Bosnia and Herzegovina had been made.
Bosnia and Herzegovina submitted its membership application on Feb. 15, 2016, obtaining candidate country status on Dec. 15, 2022.
