U.S. President Biden and former President Trump engaged in a political clash on the Texas frontier, focusing on immigration policies

The state of Texas became a political battleground Thursday for President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump as they made dueling visits to the U.S.-Mexico border to stump for their stances on illegal immigration ahead of the November 2024 presidential election.

Biden chose the border city of Brownsville, meeting with Border Patrol agents, law enforcement representatives, and state and local Democratic leaders. He addressed his bipartisan border proposal, emphasizing the need for additional resources to expedite the asylum process and dissuade illegal border crossings.

Biden’s plan also included $1.4 billion for cities and states affected by the surge in illegal immigration.

Meanwhile, Trump countered Biden’s narrative in Eagle Pass, 330 miles away, accompanied by Republican Governor Greg Abbott.

Trump criticized Biden’s approach, attributing the surge in migrants to the current administration’s policies. He pledged a crackdown on illegal immigration and increased deportations if reelected.
