Biden reaffirms support for UN-led transition process in Syria
U.S. President Joe Biden has expressed full support for a United Nations-backed transition process in Syria, in line with UN Security Council Resolution 2254, according to a statement released by the White House.
In a phone call with Jordan’s King Abdullah II, Biden discussed recent developments in Syria and Gaza. During the conversation, Biden reaffirmed the U.S. commitment to a political transition in Syria led by Syrians under UN auspices, as outlined in the resolution.
The leaders also addressed measures to prevent the resurgence of ISIS in Syria, including U.S. airstrikes carried out earlier this week. These discussions highlighted ongoing efforts to maintain stability in the region.
In addition, Biden and King Abdullah reviewed the possibility of a ceasefire in Gaza. They explored avenues for the release of hostages and the scaling up of humanitarian aid to the region.
