Azerbaijani social media users have launched a campaign under the hashtag #RussiaMustApologizeToAzerbaijan, demanding an official apology from Russia for the downing of a civilian plane.

Azerbaijani officials have confirmed reports that the crash was caused by a Russian surface-to-air missile fired during a drone attack above Grozny, Russia. The campaign has gained significant traction, with many posts calling for accountability and justice.

On December 25, 2024, an Azerbaijani Airlines passenger plane traveling from Baku to Grozny crashed near Aktau, Kazakhstan. The tragedy claimed the lives of 38 people, with 29 survivors.
