39 killed in South Sudan in clashes between herders, farmers
In South Sudan, 39 people were reportedly killed in clashes between herders and farmers over a grazing problem
Nearly 39 people were killed and 52 wounded in clashes between herders and farmers in the Warrap and Lakes regions of the country due to land disputes, according to the press statement of Sudan Police spokesperson Elijah Mabor Makuach.
Stating that security forces were dispatched to the region, Makuach noted that the clashes took place due to the herdsmen’s flocks entering agricultural lands.
In South Sudan, there are frequent clashes between tribes due to a lack of water and pasture for their animals.
Although a peace treaty was signed in the country in 2018 after many years of civil war, violent incidents continue between different tribes and groups due to the government’s failure to ensure public order and security.
