22 Chinese aircraft detected around island, says Taiwan
Taiwan reports the detection of 22 Chinese aircraft and drones circling the island for almost three hours
A total of 22 Chinese aircraft circumnavigated the island of Taiwan, claimed the Taiwan on Saturday.
Taiwan reported the activities conducted by 22 PLA aircraft, mentioning that the plane circled the island for approximately three hours.
The statement reported that 12 aircraft violated the midline and entered Taiwan’s northern and central air defense identification zones. It further mentioned that advanced warplanes and unmanned aerial vehicles accompanied the Chinese navy ships during their joint combat patrol.
The median line divides the Taiwan Strait, a narrow waterway measuring 180 kilometers (110 miles) in width, which separates the island from mainland China.
Beijing denies the legitimacy of this boundary and asserts that Taiwan is an integral part of its sovereign territory.
Under the administration of Tsai Ing-wen, tensions between Beijing and Taipei have ramped up, as she and her government reject China’s claim to the island.
