“Zero Waste” project receives Akdeniz-PA award
“Zero Waste” project in Türkiye is awarded the Mediterranean Parliamentary Assembly (AKDENIZ-PA) award for its contributions to peace and prosperity in the European-Mediterranean and Gulf regions
The “Zero Waste” project received the Mediterranean Parliamentary Assembly (AKDENİZ-PA) award for its contributions to peace and prosperity in the European-Mediterranean and Gulf regions on Wednesday.
The award was accepted by Mehmet Ozhaseki, the Minister of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change, on behalf of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his wife Emine Erdogan, at a ceremony held in Portugal.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change, the AKDENIZ-PA award was granted to the “Zero Waste” project.
At the ceremony held in the Forum Braga Conference Hall, Ozhaseki received the award from PAM Secretary-General Sergio Piazzi. He expressed Türkiye’s satisfaction in being a part of the Mediterranean Parliamentary Assembly and contributing to it.
In his speech at the ceremony, Minister Ozhaseki highlighted that the Zero Waste Movement has become a model environmental movement and economic cycle model that the whole world admires.
Emphasizing that the Zero Waste Movement both protects the environment and prevents waste, Ozhaseki stated, “We are transforming waste generated in all areas of our lives into economic value. Through the collection of waste, we have achieved an economic gain of 185 billion Turkish Lira and saved 498 million trees. With our Zero Waste Blue movement, aimed at combating marine pollution, we have recycled 7.8 million tons of plastic waste.”
