YSK receives the prize on ‘Best Practices and Initiatives’, accepts appeals for 4 provinces
Supreme Election Council President Yener announces the renewal of elections in four districts and receives an award from World Association of Election Bodies (A-WEB) in the “Best Practices and Initiatives” category
The President of the Supreme Election Council (YSK), Ahmet Yener, said that the appeals of the AK Party and the Kurdish Democracy and Equality Party (DEM), two each, as well as one each from the People’s Republic Party (CHP) and National Movement Party (MHP), regarding the election results on March 31st, have been accepted.
Stressing that they continued their work during the holiday period, Yener mentioned that the regular appeal process had ended as of yesterday, and the extraordinary appeal process would conclude on Sunday, April 14th.
While acknowledging that each election period must be evaluated within its own circumstances, Yener mentioned that there wasn’t much difference between the appeal process of 2019 and that of 2024.
Appeals from 4 parties accepted
Providing information on the results of the appeals from political parties, Yener said, “During this process, there are appeals from all political parties, some accepted and some rejected. The appeals from the AK Party have been accepted in 2 places. Similarly, the appeal from the CHP in 1 place has been accepted. The appeals from the MHP in 1 place and the DEM Party in 2 places that were submitted to our council have also been accepted. The process is ongoing. Today, our council will convene at 14:00. We will continue our meetings in the afternoons during the holiday period and on other days as well.”
Yener pointed out that the conditions for extraordinary appeals regarding elections are included in the law, saying, “The headquarters of our political parties are requesting a re-examination of the decisions we have made, in accordance with the conditions stipulated by the law. They are requesting a review of the decisions we have made.”
YSK received prize for best practices
Regarding the World Association of Election Bodies (A-WEB) awarding the YSK in the “Best Practices and Initiatives” category, Yener mentioned that the award was given based on the evaluation of the presentations they sent regarding the 2023 elections and previous election processes.
President Yener stated, “This award does not only pertain to the activities of our council during our term. We can describe it as the recognition and crowning of the success of our country’s YSK in the elections conducted since 1950.”
Elections to be repeated in 4 locations
Additionally, Yener announced that due to the acceptance of the appeal, elections would be repeated in the districts of Pinarbasi in Kayseri, Hilvan in Sanliurfa, a municipality in Edirne, and an election district in Sivas. He noted that the elections would take place on June 2nd, within the framework of the election calendar.
